Hike in the Crazy Mountains with Dr. Shane Doyle of the Crow Nation
FOR UP TO SIX PEOPLE
The Crazy Mountains possess a special mystique as an island range located at the northern tip of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and there is plenty of reason for their veneration—not only in modern times but across millennia. It was here that, in 1857, Plenty Coups, a spiritual leader of the Crow Tribe, had a vision in which he foresaw coming changes in the West. Known as Awaxaawippíia (a-wuh-kaw-wah-pee-uh) In the Crow language—which loosely translates to “Ominous Mountains,” the Crazies are a range of chiseled summits and blue-green lakes.
With this special offering, you’ll have the opportunity to hike in the Crazies with Crow tribal member Dr. Shane Doyle, who is founder of Native Nexus Consulting and also a MoJo board member. Along the way you’ll pay a special visit to the famed Anzick Clovis site. It’s where a human burial occurred approximately 13,000 years ago and is a landmark of Clovis culture. Here Paleoindian hunter-gatherers came face to face with sabertooth tigers and sloth bears.
